Change and the Direction of Change At a Glance

So integral to the divinatory process are the twin factors of change and the outcome of change that it can be useful to memorize the list below. It can only ever act as a rough sketch of future happenings, but so far as the bottom line to a reading is concerned, you will find it surprisingly accurate.

1. The Juggler: Change plus successful outcome.

2. The High Priestess: Change plus successful outcome.

3. The Empress: Favorable for love, marriage or friendship.

4. The Emperor: Fortunate outcome.

5. The High Priest: Outside assistance.

6. The Lovers: Favorable for love, marriage or friendship.

7. The Chariot: Progress, triumph.

8. Justice: Justice, balance restored.

9 The Hermit: A warning – the need for caution in your affairs.

10. The Wheel of Fortune: Change.

11. Strength: The need for determination and perseverance.

12. The Hanged Man: Sacrifices will have to be made.

13. Death: Either a change for the worse; or the need for change, because if matters continue as they are, loss will result.

14. Temperance: Fortunate outcome.

15. The Devil: Fate is against you.

16. The Tower: Unforeseen accident or damaging event.

17. The Star: Fortunate outcome.

18. The Moon: Aims damaged by secret enemies or false friends.

19. The Sun: Fortunate outcome.

20. Judgment: Change.

21. The World: Fortunate outcome.

0/22. The Fool: Aims damaged by the inquirer’s own errors or foolish behavior.

A few cards do not relate directly to either change or the results of change. They can be considered cards of warning or instruction. The warning carried by Trump 9, the Hermit, is that if you participate in the game of life without remembering to hold your cards close to your chest you will come to regret it. Trump 11, Strength, warns that success can only be attained through the employment of will-power and perseverance. The instruction represented by Trump 5, The High Priest, is for the inquirer to seek impartial advice and to heed it well. Trump 8, Justice, indicates a judgment in the inquirer’s favor, either in a court of law or within their circle of friends and acquaintances.
